Research and writing are at the core of my work as a historian. My publications thus far demonstrate my ability to conduct meaningful research, complete projects within financial and time constraints, and secure publication in a range of forums that have tremendous reach. My current research agenda focuses on the home front during the American Civil War, and asks questions about how notions of loyalty were contested and how the Midwestern global economy affected such things as Civil War enlistment, higher education, and town/gown relations. I also contribute essays and articles to nonacademic publications upon occasion. Below is a list of my publications to date:
